Safeguarding & Prevent
Safeguarding our students, staff and visitors is a fundamental consideration in all our operations.
At DN Colleges Group, safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and we have extensive processes in place to ensure effective safeguarding practice across our Colleges.
We ensure that all of our students, whatever their background or circumstances, have the support they need to:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being.
Ensuring Best Practice
Arrangements for safeguarding are prioritised throughout DN Colleges Group, with our senior leadership team and Corporation Board closely involved in the management, oversight and scrutiny of all safeguarding practices.
Staff Selection and Training
Our staff recruitment and selection practices are very thorough and all staff and subcontractors undergo the required checks.
Safeguarding is an essential part of our induction process: all staff are trained to appropriate levels and understand how to recognise abuse and make appropriate referrals.
We also have very effective links with external partners to ensure swift and appropriate action is taken when necessary.
Supporting our Students
We maintain a welcoming and secure environment for our students, and students are clear about what to do if they identify bullying or harassment.
Safe working practices are a key feature for all student activities with extremely thorough risk-assessments for work placements and educational visits.
Staff are fully aware of their obligations and provide support to our students, with our Safeguarding Officer and support staff directly involved with the most vulnerable. Students are also supported as they make informed choices about their own health and well-being.
Our Safeguarding Policies
Our safeguarding practices incorporate various statutory duties including the Safeguarding of Young People and Vulnerable Adults, Child Sexual Exploitation and Prevent – preventing people from being drawn into terrorism, supporting terrorism or being drawn into extremism.
Our Safeguarding Policies are reviewed regularly, to ensure that we are following best practice and that we respond to any changes in official guidance or legal requirements. Links to our Safeguarding Policy and other key reports, forms and documents are available below.
