Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to gain experience in the working world while developing skills and achieving qualifications through hands on training.

Work-based training programmes combine employment with working towards an apprenticeship standard.  Apprentices benefit from being fully employed, earning money while learning.  With access to College support, they learn from industry experienced professionals alongside the training provided by their employer.

Life as an Apprentice

We offer various levels of apprenticeships, which have different educational equivalents.  An intermediate or Level 2 apprenticeship is equivalent to a GCSE, and apprentices can progress through advanced, higher and degree-level apprenticeships, Foundation Degrees and Bachelor or Master’s Degrees – all without tuition fees and while in full time employment.  An apprenticeship can begin at any level, depending on the job role of the apprentice and any existing qualifications that an individual already holds.

Apprenticeships are available in a huge range of sectors, from accountancy to animal care, creative media to construction, hairdressing to hospitality – and many more.  Apprenticeships take from one to five years to complete, and we work with our apprentices to help them progress through different levels of apprentice-based qualifications as their skills and confidence grow.

Working with Local
and Regional Employers

DN Colleges Group works closely with employers to deliver structured apprenticeships that help build and develop an organisation’s workforce with the right skills, behaviours and knowledge.

We work with over 800 employers each year and we have a long history of working with local and regional organisations to ensure apprentices are a valuable addition to the workforce, contributing to sustainability and growth.  Whether an employer needs to develop existing managers or staff, or wants to recruit new team members, an apprenticeship offers a fantastic, tailored opportunity to meet their needs.

We can provide advice to businesses who are looking to recruit an apprentice, or who would like an existing employee to start an apprenticeship.  We can advise on funding, including the apprenticeship levy, help employers understand their responsibilities and even help recruit potential apprentices for our employers.

International Work Placements

Students have the opportunity to apply for overseas work placements through Erasmus+.  These all-expenses paid visits enrich the study experience for our students, allowing them to explore the opportunities of living and working abroad.

I chose an apprenticeship over University because I wanted to learn on the job while getting paid a salary. It’s the best thing I ever did and I would tell anybody to go for it!

My apprenticeship has helped me to build up practical skills in painting and decorating. I like the ‘earning and learning’ part as I get paid to do something I enjoy.
