Frequency Festival Resonates with Music Technology Students
The annual Frequency Festival took place last Thursday, as the BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology team welcomed over KYCKER and Mat Handley to present two exciting seminar and workshop sessions with Music and Music Technology students at the Stainforth campus.
The annual Frequency Festival took place last Thursday, as the BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology team welcomed over KYCKER and Mat Handley to present two exciting seminar and workshop sessions with Music and Music Technology students at the Stainforth campus.
In the morning, Lenny and Autumn from KYCKER – an artist development platform based in Sheffield – presented a highly informative seminar that examined the modern music industry model, discussing music streaming, royalty collection, and offering advice to support individual student queries.
Moving into the afternoon, local composer, radio presenter and independent record-label owner Mat Handley presented an intimate live performance of his own composition and work, which incorporated tape loops, effects pedals, synthesisers and various microphones. After explaining his own bespoke creative and technical approach, Mat then invited students to improvise with the setup to create their own pieces of performance work.
The sessions were very well-received by students on the Degree and Diploma courses at the Stainforth campus, and will provide a launchpad for the BA students who start Professional Practice and Experimental Performance modules in Semester 2.
