Football Focus for Construction Students in their Latest Renovation Project
Twelve students from the construction department at North Lindsey College have put their best painting and decorating skills to good practice in a bid to refresh Crosby United football club’s facilities.

Majority of the work was carried out on the interior of the building which is currently used as a football club for young children to deliver football sessions and training. Students had the opportunity to work on the changing facilities, kitchen, external metal doors, door trims and some external paintwork and stencilling to spruce up the jaded facilities.
This is the second football focused project that the construction department have had the opportunity to work on after previously being involved in a project at Appleby Frodingham Junior Football Club.
Mark Hornsby (Curriculum Leader at North Lindsey College) said, “As a College we want to be a part of community projects and provide our students with opportunities for work experience in the industries they are training for.
“Coming out of lockdown, this was a great chance for students to gain not just practical knowledge but also develop their social skills. You could see the enjoyment from our students and their skills and development being brought to life in an actual project and back out of the College workshop environment.”
The students who participated also enabled them to count this towards their Duke of Edinburgh qualifications which specifically requires work in the community.
Level 1 Painting and Decorating student Ceejay Verhees (17) said, “It has been fun to come here every week. It has made a change from being in the workshop and get some work experience here. I have enjoyed getting involved in a bigger project and on a bigger scale out in the community.”
The project has taken four weeks to complete with students attending just one day a week. Tracey Fletcher (Tutor of Painting and Decorating and WorldSkills Educator) said, “The experience has helped to develop our students and enables them to plan out a project from start to finish. We have had some really positive feedback and it has been great to be involved in a project off–site. The students really do benefit from being out in the community and we are keen to get involved in more projects in the future.”
