Doncaster College Stay Safe Week
South Yorkshires emergency services join Doncaster College for the annual Stay Safe Week campaign to promote safety to students in and out of college.
From Monday 10th December, the college had numerous activities taking place throughout the week to encourage staying safe within driving, gangs, drugs and relationships. South Yorkshire Police used metal detectors for a knife arch operation, where a large number of people where checked however there was no requirement for any further Police action. They also conducted a presentation on their ongoing campaign, ‘Guns and Knives Take Lives’ to hundreds of students to demonstrate the dangers of carrying weapons.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue set up a fatal car accident with a member of college staff safely inside. Hundreds of students congregated in front of The Hub campus to watch as the emergency services cut into the smashed-up vehicle to safely rescue the member of staff, talking through the dangers as they worked.
Other safety groups within South Yorkshire also attended including Safer Roads, who set up their brake reaction and BATAK response testers. Students took part with and without beer goggles to demonstrate how quickly the human brain can respond to things as they happen on the road.
Doncaster College hosts Stay Safe week every year in December to focus on all the key fundamentals of keeping our students safe.
