College Brings New Further Education Engineering Course Opportunities to the Region with a Cash Incentive!

The new courses, starting September 2020 are aimed at 16-18-year olds with a view of them progressing onto an apprenticeship in their chosen field of expertise. The courses offer a weekly learner allowance provided by The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB).

The ECITB is launching a new Scholarship programme; a two-year level 2 progressing to level 3 craft programme in Pipework or Welding and a level 3 two-year technician route in Instrumental and Control. Both the Scholarships include a learner allowance for students of £140 per week and will be delivered, dependent on the specialism, from our sites at British Steel, North Lindsey College Campus or at the CATCH Academy, Immingham. Applicants will need to ideally have level 2 English and maths and be aged 16-18 years.

Two more courses on offer are the ECITB Introduction to Engineering Construction Programme (ITEC) offering a Level 3 Certificate in Pipefitting or Welding. Both these further education programmes are shorter and will run full time (5 days a week) from September 2020 to April 2021 and include a weekly learner allowance of £100 per week to the student.

In addition to the courses, students will also receive their CCNSG Safety Passport, which will enable them to access engineering and construction sites helping support their progression into employment or an apprenticeship.

Andrew Mitchell, ECITB Regional Chair for the York and Humber region, said: “I started out my career as an ECITB apprentice at North Lindsey College. It propelled me to become a junior engineer, then an engineer to a project manager and eventually into senior management. I would highly recommend this route into an engineering career to any young person; it offers the basic grounding and practical experience that employers want.”
