The Business degree programme, delivered at the UCNL received outstanding results for 2019-20 with 24% of the cohort achieving the top grade, a First-Class Honours and 49% of the cohort received a high 2:1 grade.  The programme has remained a firm favourite with outstanding results and is affiliated with the University of Lincoln.

The programme is designed for students who want to work in the fast-paced global world of business, whether it is in a private, public, or a third sector organisation. The students have tackled a variety of subject areas which underpin business practice, such as finance, organisational behaviour and economics before moving on to more complex aspects of management in the second year including diversity, innovation, operations, strategy, and budgeting. In their final year they study areas including leadership, entrepreneurship, consultancy, marketing, and human resource management.

Sarah Bromby was one of the recent Business students who received a First-Class Honours result, she chose to study at the UCNL because it was local to her and at the time was unsure which direction her career was going. Sarah said, “The main thing I have taken away from the Business degree is how much it has provided me with confidence in both myself and when around other people, which is something I had always lacked.”

Sarah continued, “Studying Business allowed me to uncover certain strengths I wasn’t aware I had, such as determination, ambition and passion to succeed. It was during year 2 of the course that I uncovered an entrepreneurial mindset of wanting to be my own boss. The range of subjects taught within the business degree opened up so many windows of opportunity. So much so that I have recently set up my own craft business ‘SLBDESIGNS’ creating and designing personalised prints and products which has taken off better than I ever imagined.

“The support and encouragement from every single one of the tutors was so valuable and I genuinely can’t thank them enough for their support and taking time out of their schedule to check and then double check my assignments each time. Without a doubt it was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and would 100% recommend it anyone and everyone. No matter where you are on your journey, if it is something you have thought about then please take that leap of faith and go for it! As challenging as it can get sometimes, the end result will be so worth it.

Due to Covid-19, the 2019-2020 intake of students will not be able to celebrate their achievements until April 2020 where they are currently planning to officially graduate at Lincoln Cathedral if restrictions allow.  Rob Garner (Programme Leader of Higher Education Business and Management) said, “We are all exceptionally proud of our student achievements, to see them progress from wide eyed first year students to mature, confident, knowledgeable and articulate graduates is what we strive for. The Business team can all be commended for their hard work and support and will continue to do the same with new and progressing students coming to the UCNL.
