Former SAS leader and sniper, Billy Billingham spent over 20 years in the SAS before moving on to become a bodyguard to the stars including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Russell Crowe, Sir Michael Caine, Tom Cruise and many others.

The event took place in the College’s Events Centre and was fully booked with students from all curriculum areas attending. The event was an introduction to Billy’s UK tour about his trials, tribulations and lessons learnt throughout his career.

Billy believes that if you try and believe in yourself, you’ll be in a better place to achieve your goals. His message to students is, “Take advice what’s positive and negative but use what works for you. Listen, learn and use your courage and conviction to make decisions and go for it. My mantra is Always a Little Further (ALF).”

Following the event, Billy hosted ‘An Audience with Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham’ at The Baths Hall to the general public.

North Lindsey College students also had the opportunity to attend a second motivational talk delivered by, multi-award winning, multi-lingual and multi-talented entrepreneur, Paul Hughes.

The event was delivered as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme, a government imitative. It was organised by the UCNL (University Centre North Lincolnshire) part of the consortium with the Humber Outreach Programme.

Caroline Fielder-Shattell, Head of HE Access and Participation Development at the UCNL said, “We really enjoyed welcoming Billy onto campus, he gave an inspiration talk to a wide range of students about his life and the impact of his ALF mantra.”

Engineering student, Dylan Scouler said, “Working as an engineer you have to be disciplined so we could really relate to his story. The talk was inspirational. I had seen Billy before as I’d watched the show ‘Who Dare’s Wins.”
